Birdcage Veil Headpiece Edinburgh Bride
I often meet brides who would like to incorporate something very special into their bespoke bridal headpiece, fascinator or veil to turn it into heirloom worthy. When I met Nicola, it was clear this was going to be a very special commission when she asked to use the lace from her Great Granny’s veil in her couture birdcage veil headpiece.
Nicola opted for our Odette headpiece, (which is incidentally inspired by Swan Lake) but requested that it was made slightly longer than the standard design. That’s the great thing about ordering a bespoke, commission piece; you can make so many adaptations to the design to ensure it suits you perfectly!
I very carefully removed some sections of lace from Nicola’s Great Granny’s veil. Using traditional beading techniques, I added Nicola’s choice of pearls and sequins to the lace. Nicola also opted to include blue Swarovski crystals, which matched her beautiful Manolo Blahnik heels.
Nicola’s birdcage veil, in ivory, was designed so that it could be removed later in the day after the ceremony so that the headpiece could be worn on its own afterwards. We opted for a smaller size of birdcage veil to sit under the headpiece, although being custom made, our brides and wedding guests can choose any size they like!
